| Maryland Broadband Mapping Initiative | |||||||||
| The ESRGC is currently working with Maryland Broadband Cooperative and Towson University on the Maryland Broadband Mapping Initiative. This initiative aims to complete a data collection and mapping effort of Maryland’s broadband areas especially its unserved and underserved areas in a way that is supportive of both business’ and government’s goal of expansion of utilization of broadband service. This project will fulfill the Broadband Data Improvement Act’s requirement for a broadband mapping component for Maryland and will contribute significantly to the national effort to collect and visualize broadband data and areas. The initial data collection effort will be completed in 2010 but the effort is expected to be ongoing. | |||||||||
| Critical Area Boundary Mapping | |||||||||
| The ESRGC is currently working with Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources, the Critical Area Commission, and County representatives in the statewide updating of Maryland’s Critical Area Boundary. Analysts are using high resolution true-color orthophotography, color infrared imagery, and ortho-rectified tidal wetlands maps to determine the edge of shoreline and the landward edge of tidal wetlands which will then be used to create the 1000 foot Critical Area boundary. | |||||||||
| Data Distribution for Project and County Datasets | |||||||||
| The ESRGC is providing this data distribution service in cooperation with the Counties and the regional Councils of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Also found on the page is datasets from current and past projects. | |||||||||
| Flood Vulnerability Analysis (Maryland Department of the Environment, Water Management Administration, Wetlands and Waterways Program) | |||||||||
Using the latest HAZUS-MH Flood module developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the ESRGC is completing a General Stock Damage and Loss analysis for a 100-year flood event for each county in the State, including the City of Baltimore. More details of this project will be available soon. |

Centerlines Attrtibution within Metropolitan Planning Organization Boundary |

Completed in 2010, The ESRGC prepared the Wicomico County centerlines within the Metropolitan Planning Organization boundary for a traffic visualization study. Analysts used high resolution true color orthophotography to populate several attribute fields including lane width, number of lanes, road surface, and road classification. Analysts also conducted field work to collect restrictions such as stop signs and speed limit signs. |

| Georgia's National Wetland Inventory | |||||||||
| Completed in 2009, the ESRGC collaborated with PBS&J, EcoScience, and Mulkey Engineers & Consultants to assist in the update of the National Wetland Inventory (NWI) for six coastal counties in Georgia. Analysts used an extensive data library to re-delineate wetlands with the goal to increase the amount of accurate information available for coastal wetland resources for the better planning and decision-making by federal, state, and local agencies. | |||||||||
| Lower Eastern Shore Tax Ditch GIS Data Development (Maryland Department of Agriculture, Office of Resource Conservation) | |||||||||
In the Summer and Fall of 2004 the ESRGC assisted the Maryland Department of Agriculture in digitizing and annotating tax ditches and public drainage associations in selected areas on the Lower Eastern Shore. Tax ditches from the Pocomoke, Nanticoke and Coastal Bays watersheds are available for free download as are PDAs from the Pocomoke and Coastal Bays watersheds. |

| History of Vienna John Smith GIS Project | |||||||||
As the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the Jamestown Colony nears in 2007, interest in the colonization and the resulting exploration of the Chesapeake Bay is rising. John Smith’s exploration of the Bay and its tributaries in 1608-09 continues to be amazing accomplishment, particularly in terms of its breadth, its completeness, and its accuracy. Indeed, the resulting map of Smith’s travels around the Chesapeake Bay, published in 1612, was used as a reference for the next 150 years. |

| Legislative District Land Use Map Project | |||||||||
To better inform Maryland's state delegates and senators about the land use issues in their district as well as to provide them with a useful reference map to use during discussions with constituents, the ESRGC has completed a project to create a large format map of land use for each state legislative district in Maryland. These maps were given as gifts to the senators and delegates during SU Day at the Legislature held on January 25, 2005. |
